Experiences @ VGSoM

The blog which I wasn’t updating for a few days or weeks should I say is being updated finally.

I am in IIT Kharagpur now, doing my MBA from VGSoM. This blog entry will be about my experiences in Kharagpur. The expectations I had from this place were nowhere close to the reality. This place really is bad. There is proper food , no net connection in the day time, my god damn flush hasn’t been working since the day I arrived here. Once it was repaired, it was again broken by the so called ,never present , maintenance staff. So cutting the long story short, this place sucks. Then I think, is this really that bad. Hey c’mon ! I don’t need that my five star facilities. Whatever I am getting here should have been expected. So what it is IIT, still it is a hostel and is India and above all its not in a metropolitan area. So I guess , I am wrong here. It’s not that IIT has disappointed me, but I have disappointed by expecting too much from this place. Perhaps, I am feeling bad because I am homesick bigtime. I miss my Janu. I love you baby. I never have been away from my mom for this long a period. Yeah yeah !!! You may call me a mumma’s boy, but I am not at all ashamed by it. I love her madly. She cares for me so much that no one can match it. Although I would love my janu to love me that much, but I don’t think its possible. She just cant do it. As a matter of fact , nobody can do it. MOM !!! I MISS YOU……. I LOVE YOU………

Next up, the people over here. God damn it. There is so much diversity. There are all kinds of people – some party holics, some nerds , some in between, some shy, some totally extrovert, some so so so heavy(sizewise), some slim(like me)…….. Cool people here. I have got some good friends over here. That really makes life a bit easier especially when you are missing your place so much. A cool thing about the people here is that they all are very helpful to each other. Hey !!! they party too…. And I get the bumps everytime…. Whenever there is a birthday, they don’t search for the birthday boy but poor Golcha. In fact, this GOLCHA GOLCHA has become a chant at VGSOM. I like it but till how long, IT DEPENDS…..

In less than a month, we will be having our first taste of exams over here. Hmmmm, last time I had an experience of the same, it was not good. I hope it changes this time around. Chalo ! lets see wats in store for me.

Big Big Sporting Night

Tonight its is one of the biggest sporting nights there is going to be in a short term future (at least). There are so many big events charted up for tonight. Golf, football, formula 1 (have stopped following it) - everything tonight.

First up - The Spanish League aka La Liga.....

Oh boy !!! such a big night for the top clubs. Anyone can win the league. There are three teams in contention. Real Madrid , Barcelona , Sevilla - anyone of them can wrap up what is arguably the most difficult league in the world. Going in to the final round of matches, Real and Barca are tied on same number of points with Real in the lead by the virtue of better head to head record against Barca ( In spain , it is about the better head to head record as against the goal difference method which is followed in EPL). Sevilla are in third position who are just two points back. Although , it is very difficult for Sevilla to be champs but not impossible. If both Real and Barca fail to beat their oppponents and Sevilla wins tonight , they are the champs. They have better head to head record against both their rivals. It would complete a terrific treble for the team who has already won the UEFA cup and the local cup competition - the King's Cup. But the favorites will be Real as their fate is in their own hands. Last week in La Liga was truly awesome. With all the teams drawing their games. At one point , Real were a goal back and Barca were looking good for a win but then in a freak few seconds , Barca were pegged back by Espanyol and Real scored an equalizer at Zaragoza. So watch out tonight for the crowning of the champions. Coverage on Star Sports from 0130 hrs.

Can it get any better than this - Eldrick "Tiger" Woods going in the final round of a major just two shots back and a part of the final pairing. Although the "great" player hasnt won a major coming back from any kind of deficit going in to the final day , but you have to say that he is the favorite as the amount of experience he has compared to others who are in contention is so much more. He has been there and seen it all. If he wins this one , it will increase his tally of majors to 13 just 5 back Jack Nicklaus (18 majors) . I watched the third round last night and i have to say , he was just magnificent. It could have been a very very good round for him had his putter showed the touch he was showing off the tee. But nevertheless, he has put himself in a great position to win at Oakmont Country Club which is supposed to be the most difficult golf course in USA if not the world.
But not just Tiger , anyone else can win the open as the golf course is playing very difficult. anyone who has a good day today can. But my money will be on the Tiger. Watch out Tiger tee off tonight at 0030 hrs live on ESPN.

Finally Formula 1 - Hamilton again beats Teammate Alonso to Pole
This rookie Hamilton has gone crazy, pulling off such brilliant performances. This guy has finished every damn single race this season on the podium this season. He won his first grand prix last week in Montreal. Again , he is starting on pole. He has to be the favorite. Going is getting tougher for Double World Champ Alonso. His team mate is bettering him in every aspect of the game. But there is long way to go. So lets see what pans out. Catch live formula 1 action on Star Sports. Coverage begins 2130 IST.

Golf - - - - The BEST individual sport in the world

Golf - Its truly an awesome game. You need evrything from power to precision. I mean you got so many different shots to make. There are so many obstacles (if you call them so ) in form of sand bunkers , water hazards , roughs... etc.... The shots are never easy . You need different amount of power depending n where your ball is lying. This being the most beautiful (frustrating to some) part of the game - PLAY THE BALL AS IT LIES.

When i started writing on this topic , my purpose was just to write the rules... but now i think that if you are interested in the game, you wud be knowing the rules already . If you are not interested, you wont give a damn about it and if you want to learn it, there are many sites which can give you the playing rules. So my advice to all - Learn this game.. It is BEAUTIFUL.

Now, Why is golf not popular in India ?

Reasons -

1. Expensive - The game is darn expensive. A golf membership burns such a big hole in your pocket that a person will think a million times before entering this field , especially for Indians , which is said to be one of the most price conscious countries of the world. The equipment is also very expensive. It will set you back by such an obscene amount that is greater than the annual per capita of the country.

2. Lack of infrastructure - The infrastructure is also not in place. Lack of proper golf courses is inhibiting the popularization. Although , it can be because of dearth of funds but this can be a good tourist attraction. In foreign countries, golf courses are a norm. Most of the individuals play the game over there.

3. No World Class Player - Yes, i agree there are some pretty good players in India like Jyoti Randhawa, Jeev Milkha Singh, Shiv Kapur etc. but they are no big time PGA tour play ( for the laymen, its the circuit where the major players like Woods, Mickelson, Furyk, Els, Vijay Singh ( Not Indian, from Fiji ), Goosen kind of players play) . So until we have a player who represent the country at the very top level of the game , golf is unlikely to gain any popularity in our country.

4. Cricket - How can another sport be bad for other sport if they are not related with each other? The answer is - It happens only in India. Another example being the national sport of India - Hockey. look at its present condition. So, as long as cricket is there , it is very difficult for the kids to be attracted to golf. I am not saying you should ban cricket, But just saying that promote other sports apart from cricket at school level. My point is Indian kids are not offered choices. They are exposed to cricket only so they take it up. How many football , hockey , golf academies are there ? and compare this number to the number of cricket academies.

Improving the Situation

First of all, is it possible ? Of course it is. Look at USA , they have so many different sports all enjoying a great fan base. Basketball, IceHockey, Football( Rugby or American Football for us), Baseball, Motorsports, and ofcourse Golf. They all are superhits in the US. Yes , they have a very strong economy and a great deal of money to feed all these sports But so do we now. We have greater problems in proper allocation of funds and all due to corruption. So one way is to bring corporate culture and full transparency.

Damn it Life !!!

Oh No Not again !!!!
I am seriously ill now. Mentally ill that is.. Lost is all completely... just cant be sure what I am doing rite now. I am just not sure abt myslef, my abilities, my choices and above all my fate... I suck bigtime. I went to the college today and was given one more shock. A big one. Apparently , the original PROBLEM which i had is resolved till now. God knows what is going to happen now... The wait is getting longer and excruciating. Oh no !!! i am now dead tired of it all. why doesnt it end.... I jst want to live my life in peace... It is just not right. Hmmm.. i just want to keep myself occupied. But got absolutely nothing to do. May be , i ll revert back to something good or something which interests me. but this bloody thing is on my mind every single second. Hmmmm... lets see what tomoro brings me.

Whooooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Hey the title is a bit weird because i just cant explain what i am feeling rite now...... It is the best day i have had since sometime...... I feel so light , so happy , no tensions, no trouble , NO PROBLEM............... YEssss !!!!! My problem has been solved..... Its like a huge burden is off my shoulders..... i can now lead a very normal life... This is way too good........ I M SO SO SO SO HAPPY..........

That brings me to my happiness speech.........

I want to thank my parents especially my mom who has been a pillar to always having supported me and believing in me. I wanna thank God for giving me a second life....meri janu - jis se maine bahut pareshan kiya ....dint talk to her properly at all....sorry honey!!! but i lov you a lot....... I wanna thank pilla who was sort of my punching bag..... bahut pakaya hai maine use.... but thats wat frens are for..... also my other goodie frens..... MAddy ( Dude !!! rock hel(L) now ) , Pilli (Pille ki bandi ) - is se metro mein bahut pareshan kiya hai...... also to admin aunties - have asked them several times result kab aayega..... and to evrbody to whom i have caused problems.......

Number Crunching

Number crunching , calculations , permutation and combunations , data mining , above all tension, anxiety - i will describe my past few days like this only. one question in my mind...... can i take this ne more? I hope i can, but my mind doesnt want to. it bloody goddamn tired. i should have been sad today. Man Utd lost on the FA Cup finals. But i am not. i am not affected. this is the last thing i want, i just dont myself to be cut off from the world. i wanna go out n have fun. My idea of fun may not going to an expensive bar and drink a lot (cant even afford it) or go to a very busy place... i just want to have some peace. just give time to myself, reflect upon my actions. a lot many things are on my mind rite now. I wanna find solutions to them, but just cant seem to find time. I need space. My space, I need to talk to myself, or else i am going down. it wont be too long that a tire out and lose everything.
lately, i am getting some information abt my frens. Holy Christ !!! they have become super human beings now. And when i look at myself, i pity myself. Where am I? who am i? i m nothing. wat have i done to my life. i need to grab it by the throat at put it right back on track. But i know, its not that easy, i need to fill the gigantic void. It will take massive time. But if i am able to fill it, the growth, i know, must be really intoxicating.... When that happens, i will know that my number crunching bore fruits !!!
